More About This Resource
Teach first-grade students to spell with these Science of Reading-aligned, NO PREP, weekly Word Study Assessments. ⭐️⭐️Save $$$ and buy the 1st Grade Word Study BUNDLE ⭐️⭐️
Word study units are different from traditional spelling units. Instead of giving students a list of words to memorize each week, these word study units focus on a specific phonics skill. Students are given explicit instruction on the phonics pattern and then have activities throughout the week that allow them to practice the phonics skill, and investigate and discover the patterns in words.
Included in this resource:
- A research-based, SoR-aligned Master Word List
- Assessments for Each Unit (includes, word dictation, sentence dictation and spelling error analysis)
- EDITABLE Assessment Templates
- Teacher Assessment Guide
Note: This resource only includes assessments and other items listed above. Want more than just assessments? Check out my yearlong word study BUNDLE for student printables & more:

I love the extra elements on the spelling tests that go beyond just spelling the words. Thank you!

Using the dictation sentences was a bit confusing. Otherwise, great resource.

I use these for every spelling test. I am not sure if you could ever make them for only 6 words but that is how many our district recommends. I just have the kids cross off the extra word areas. Love how I can add a Sentence or a drawing on the bottom. Helps me to see who is understanding concepts in those areas.

I would LOVE this product. However… the words are very easy. I am still making up two other spelling list for my on level and above level kids. I also didn’t like that it was blocked to convert into a word document. Makes it difficult when you use different words for the correct the sentence and illustration. I have a subscription for the adobe converter so that I can edit PDF I have purchased. Annoying… but oh well!
