More About This Resource
These Science of Reading-aligned decodable books with comprehension questions and explicit teacher lesson plans are the perfect resource to support your beginning readers. Each decodable story is a phonics-based controlled text that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught phonics skill words, and irregular high-frequency words. The science of reading shows us that the connection between what our students learn in phonics and what they read is imperative for building a strong foundation in early reading.
This resource contains 60 illustrated, decodable books that align with a research-based systematic phonics scope and sequence. Skills include short vowel CVC, blends, digraphs, CVCe, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels and diphthongs. Explicit lesson plans for each book are provided for the teacher with activities to use before, during and after reading to strengthen students’ phonics skills. The resource includes two different versions of student printables and audio recordings for each passage to ensure you can easily differentiate based on students’ needs. These printable decodable books come in black and white and in color with illustrations by Christian Garvey of Pinewood Press.
Using these decodable books and lesson plans, students will reread the decodable text to build fluency, discuss the text to build comprehension skills, and write about the story to apply and transfer their phonics skills to their writing.

This decodables bundle is great! My students have found them engaging. They have already asked me to make sure that we use them next year too. Even my upper elementary students with severe reading disabilities have responded positively to these. Good selection and another quality resource from Lead in Literacy! Thanks 🙂
Stacie Watson –
These were perfect to use with the whole class. I also sent them home for extra practice.

It’s so hard to find good decodable texts and also prep engaging effective lessons to use with the boods. I love that these resources are aligned to Wiley Blevins work which I respect. These books make good literacy instruction easy to implement.
The Primary Sprinkle –
These decodables are great to use for small groups and intervention time. I love the different levels of comprehension and responses.

I use these decodable mini-books to supplement the curriculum (95% Group Phonics Lesson Library) for my reading intervention groups. My students find them so engaging. They frequently ask to read these “books”, which they seem to prefer to the typical one-page stories from our phonics curriculum. These illustrated decodables are particularly helpful for my ML students. The illustrations help support the meaning of the text (great for ML students with emerging English vocabulary) without being a crutch for students to guess at the words.
RJ’s Shop –
Great resource for the varied needs of my small groups.

Hi, the zip file blends and diagraphs the slays the destination path is too long. Rename the compressed folder. With renaming I was able to download the CVCe books but not for Blends. Please help with this. I had purchased this earlier in the year.
