More About This Resource
These Science of Reading-aligned decodable books with comprehension questions and explicit teacher lesson plans are the perfect resource to support your beginning readers. Each decodable story is a phonics-based controlled text that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught phonics skill words, and irregular high-frequency words. The science of reading shows us that the connection between what our students learn in phonics and what they read is imperative for building a strong foundation in early reading.
This resource contains 60 illustrated, decodable books that align with a research-based systematic phonics scope and sequence. Skills include short vowel CVC, blends, digraphs, CVCe, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels and diphthongs. Explicit lesson plans for each book are provided for the teacher with activities to use before, during and after reading to strengthen students’ phonics skills. The resource includes two different versions of student printables and audio recordings for each passage to ensure you can easily differentiate based on students’ needs. These printable decodable books come in black and white and in color with illustrations by Christian Garvey of Pinewood Press.
Using these decodable books and lesson plans, students will reread the decodable text to build fluency, discuss the text to build comprehension skills, and write about the story to apply and transfer their phonics skills to their writing.

This resource is perfect for our literacy center rotations. The decodable texts are perfect for my students who are emergent readers, still learning to read CVC words and a few heart words. I plan to continue to use this resource all year long!

Meagan Hawkins –
It is hard to find quality decodables. I love that I can print these and send them home with students to keep for practice without losing out on money by using decodables from a publishing company!
Sarah A. –
These books have been excellent for decodable practise and as a home reading program.
Sherry T. –
I love these books and how they are organized by phonics skills. I used these every week in my 1st grade class.
Hallie F. –
These are wonderful. Our new reading curriculum does not have decodables for 2nd grade, so I found these and downloaded the preview. I loved the easiness of them. I am using them as part of my center work throughout the week. One day one, students highlight the skill and circle HFW and practice reading in Seesaw. I definitely recommend these if you are needing something extra to help your students.
Kelsie Y. –
Love these! Well designed resources that are very student friendly.

From one of my favorite TpT authors. Includes lots of decodable books working on specific phonics patterns. Great supplement to the adopted curriculum.
My first grade students enjoyed using this resource to support our adopted curriculum. This resource was used to provide fun and much needed practice. They were engaged and grew in their skills and knowledge. I look forward to using this resource again this year with a new batch os students. Anytime I can add a game or activity to cement new learning is a bonus. Thank you for this resource.
