More About This Resource
This Sound Wall with Mouth Pictures & Sound Wall Locks is a comprehensive, Science of Reading-aligned tool designed to help students master phoneme awareness and phonics. Unlike traditional word walls, this sound wall organizes words by sounds (phonemes) rather than alphabetical order, providing students with a more effective reference when reading and spelling. With mouth articulation pictures representing diverse children and sound wall locks to secure student engagement, this resource offers an interactive, research-based approach to phonics instruction.
The sound wall includes all the materials needed to systematically teach phonemes, making it perfect for educators who want to align their instruction with Science of Reading best practices, such as those suggested by LETRS. Whether used in print or digitally via Google Slides, this resource offers versatility in the classroom.

Ok this is a fantastic resource, with one issue.
I love the pictures, the diverse faces, the student copies, etc. I however, cannot for the life of me understand the “moon” and “unicorn” cards. The moon card has the long u sound and the the “oo” sound you hear in school, too, moon, etc. I do not know anyone that adds a “y” sound in moon, room, food, etc. Keep the two sounds separate and fix the cards and it would be a 5 star resource.

Hi Stephanie, They are 2 of the 44 distinct phonemes:
