More About This Resource
Teach third-grade students to spell with these Science of Reading-aligned, NO PREP, weekly Word Study Units. This YEAR LONG word study resource includes a master list of weekly word study units based upon a systematic & explicit phonics scope and sequence, three student printables for each unit, (EDITABLE templates included), word cards for instruction or use at a center, and family letters to send home each week! It gives students practice with word recognition, vocabulary, phonics AND spelling!
⭐️⭐️Save $$$ – 20% OFF 3rd Grade Word Study Bundle ⭐️⭐️
Word study units are different from traditional spelling units. Instead of giving students a list of words to memorize each week, these word study units focus on a specific phonics skill. Students are given explicit instruction on the phonics pattern and then have activities throughout the week that allow them to practice the phonics skill, and investigate and discover the patterns in words.
Included in this resource:
- A research-based, SoR-aligned Phonics Scope & Sequence
- Master Word List
- Word cards
- 3 Practice Printables for Each Unit
- EDITABLE Printable Templates
- A Family Letter for Each Unit
Note: This resource only includes printables and other items listed above. Want more? Check out my yearlong word study BUNDLE for assessments & more: 3rd Grade Yearlong Word Study BUNDLE

This spelling pack has been so helpful this year! Our ELA curriculum is lacking in it’s spelling, so this has been a lifesaver to implement.

Not to sound redundant, but the reviews above from Heather and denmother are spot on! It’s so nice having everything right there and they match! Phonics skills does not necessarily end in 2nd grade!!! Word study is great for 3rd grade!

Great for my class which is half ESL. May students were not studying at home, but daily exposure and working with the words sets in class have seen their spelling scores improve! I also enjoy how the level of difficulty increases subtly, the ones who complained it was too easy at first have become mysteriously quiet. My only issue is that there are so many ‘old resources’ that are quiet usable. If the template allowed for the larger word lists of the ‘new’ set, that would be very helpful!
Thank you so much!
