These writing prompts will naturally differentiate your writing center! Each prompt has a story specific vocabulary word bank to assist young writers in brainstorming ideas and spelling word while writing. In addition, students can edit their work with the self editing checklists. These writing prompts are perfect for small group writing, literacy center activities, homework, morning work writing, or as a meaningful writing activity when you have a substitute teacher.

The labeled pictures are great for my students with language needs as they can write about the picture independently without needing help spelling a word or figuring out what an object is called.

I use this resource as a way to get students writing. The picture helps get them thinking of different stories they can write. This is also a great resource for my language learners.

Used these in my SpEd classroom with students who were working at 1st-2nd grade level. It had a long learning curve (my students’ needs, not a reflection on the resource) but it helped my students become better at using illustrations to direct details in their writing.
