More About This Resource
Looking for a science of reading based literacy center that exposes students to high frequency words and utilizes the heart word method? With this phonemic awareness activity, students will build phonemic awareness skills while having fun! Students will identify the phoneme represented by each picture and blend the sounds together to identify the mystery heart word. This Mystery Word Heart Word Center is intended for use after students have explicit and systematic instruction with heart words. Students can then practice heart words through this phonemic awareness task. Students will tap the sounds for each mystery word and match to the heart word. Tutorial included for how to edit the hearts for each word.

Unfortunately, I found that this just didn’t fit as well as I had hoped. A lot of the words weren’t quite heart words for my kids because they had already learned those concepts. However, I liked the idea and plan on using them more towards the beginning of the year next year.
