Teach second-grade students to spell with these Science of Reading-aligned, NO PREP, weekly Word Study Units. It gives students practice with word recognition, vocabulary, phonics AND spelling!
⭐️⭐️Download the Preview to see everything included! ⭐️⭐️
Updated 8/23: Mini units added for suffix word endings (-s, -ing, ed), soft c & soft g, suffix -er & -est, plural change y to ies, prefixes & other suffixes.
Word study units are different from traditional spelling units. Instead of giving students a list of words to memorize each week, these word study units focus on a specific phonics skill. Students are given explicit instruction on the phonics pattern and then have activities throughout the week that allow them to practice the phonics skill, and investigate and discover the patterns in words.

We finished one week of the activities in one day! My daughter just loved doing these activities! She had so much fun with the cut and paste parts. Spelling has never been this fun! She struggles with spelling, so we are very excited to find something that she enjoys doing!

Love this resource. Great to have a way to check skill comprehension, not just memorizing a list of words. Having a ready to go letter to families about the skill is wonderful. I wish there were a little more supporting materials for each skill and maybe 2 different assessments for each skill as sometimes it will take more than one week for students to master the skill.

Although this doesn’t align exactly with my scope and sequence, I have utilized the editable pages. This has been great for structured literacy.
