More About This Resource
This science of reading-aligned resource contains 60 decodable passages with comprehension questions and is perfect for beginning readers. Each passage is a phonics-based controlled text that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught words and irregular high frequency words. The resource is aligned to a research-based, systematic, phonics scope and sequence andincludes explicit lesson plans for each passage, as well as activities for before, during and after reading.
If you already own my decodable books with comprehension questions, these decodable passages with comprehension questions are the perfect addition to your collection! While these follow the same scope and sequence as my decodable books resource, the stories are not the same.
This resource contains 60 decodable passages that align with a research-based systematic phonics scope and sequence. Skills include short vowel CVC, blends, digraphs, CVCe, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, and diphthongs. Explicit lesson plans for each passage are provided for the teacher with activities for before, during, and after reading to strengthen phonics skills. Differentiate for student needs by using the two versions of student printables and audio recording for each passage. Using these passages and lesson plans, students will reread the decodable text to build fluency, discuss the text to build comprehension skills and write about the passage to apply and transfer their phonics skills to their writing.

This resource has been of such great value to me this year in helping my readers make real progress. I only wish I had this years ago! Systematic and explicit lessons with a clearly defined teacher’s guide that makes it so simple to implement. Each decodable reader builds upon prior lessons, includes useful blending lines and reviews our heart words as well. I also appreciate the QR code in the top corner of each story – what a great addition! My EL students benefit from this QR code since it gives them (and their parents!) even more valuable practice at home. Honestly one of the best resources I have incorporated into my reading lessons this year.

My kids are LOVING using these. They love the listening component of these passages. Highly recommend this resource to teachers K-2 for sure!

The single best resource I have purchased. The time taken to folder all of the different skill instead of one huge file is a game changer. The kids build momentum with the blending lines. For my students that struggle the most I have them give it a listen first. Such a game changer, thank you for all your time, thoughtfulness, and effort. It is so appreciated.

My students love these passages. They are very decodable if you are following SOR. Just be aware that there are some passages that you may need to review your phonics knowledge to be able to use them effectively with your students. I am just learning and there were a few things that I wasn’t sure about. My students have grown so much!

I needed to add a comprehension piece for some of my struggling readers in my intervention groups. I needed to find a resource that also followed a very explicit and systematic skill sequence. THIS IS IT! This is just what I needed. I could not find a passage that focused on the specific skill that also included comprehension questions! THIS IS AMAZING and has helped me out so much in my instruction planning.

These made a perfect fit for our dyslexia intervention. My kids loved being able to read a passage without having to struggle. It also helped their comprehension:)

This has been such a fantastic resource for my phonics time. The stories are long enough for practice and short enough to maintain interest, along with the comprehension support. My *wish* is there were a few additions: ph, soft c and hard g, the sounds of y-to match the sound wall 🙂 Thank you!
