More About This Resource
This science of reading-aligned resource contains 60 decodable passages with comprehension questions and is perfect for beginning readers. Each passage is a phonics-based controlled text that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught words and irregular high frequency words. The resource is aligned to a research-based, systematic, phonics scope and sequence andincludes explicit lesson plans for each passage, as well as activities for before, during and after reading.
If you already own my decodable books with comprehension questions, these decodable passages with comprehension questions are the perfect addition to your collection! While these follow the same scope and sequence as my decodable books resource, the stories are not the same.
This resource contains 60 decodable passages that align with a research-based systematic phonics scope and sequence. Skills include short vowel CVC, blends, digraphs, CVCe, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, and diphthongs. Explicit lesson plans for each passage are provided for the teacher with activities for before, during, and after reading to strengthen phonics skills. Differentiate for student needs by using the two versions of student printables and audio recording for each passage. Using these passages and lesson plans, students will reread the decodable text to build fluency, discuss the text to build comprehension skills and write about the passage to apply and transfer their phonics skills to their writing.

This is such a great resource to help kids practice the skills we are using in phonics. I have a lot of students who are benefitting from reading these passages repeatedly to learn new phonics skills.

I use these daily in reading groups. I love how it has the students read the same passage multiple times and gives them a sentence starter. We talk about how we should always answer questions in a full sentence and I plan on slowly taking away the sentence starter to see how they can come up with it on their own.

This has been so helpful for my low level readers! I have searched all over for reading passages that follow phonics patterns. This is a great way to reinforce the phonics skills we’re learning.

I use this at the end of each phonics routine to help solidify the sounds we were working on. My students really enjoy reading with a partner and look forward to it. I love that they are becoming better, stronger readers and are learning how to answer the questions using a complete sentence as well. Thank you for creating this.
