More About This Resource
Teach third-grade students to spell with these Science of Reading-aligned, NO PREP, weekly Word Study Units. This YEAR LONG word study resource includes a phonics scope and sequence, master word study list, word study practice activities, weekly assessments, editable templates, family letters and MORE! It gives students practice with word recognition, vocabulary, phonics AND spelling!
⭐️⭐️Download the Preview to see everything included! ⭐️⭐️
Updated: Now includes the beginning of the year spelling screener to determine where in the scope & sequence to begin word study with your students! 8/26/2022
Word study units are different from traditional spelling units. Instead of giving students a list of words to memorize each week, these word study units focus on a specific phonics skill. Students are given explicit instruction on the phonics pattern and then have activities throughout the week that allow them to practice the phonics skill, and investigate and discover the patterns in words.
Included in this resource:
- A research-based, SoR-aligned Scope and Sequence
- Master Word Study List
- Word Study Teacher Guide
- Word cards
- 3 Practice Printables for Each Unit
- Assessments that include: word dictation, sentence dictation & spelling error analysis
- Editable templates for printables & assessments
- A Family Letter for Each Unit
- A Teacher Assessment Guide and Master Word List
- Beginning of the Year Student Screener

Thank you for this great resource!
Jean R. –
I feel like this is pretty expensive for what is basically the same few worksheets over and over for every word list. The “Teacher Guide” would not be at all helpful for someone without knowledge of word study routines/syllable types, etc

Thanks!

Thanks
Ann H. –
Thank you so much for a terrific product. The only thing I would’ve liked to have seen would be spelling sheets/lists that could be sent home in the students’ folder. Perhaps I overlooked it?
Christina –
Hi Ann,
Thank you so much for your purchase! I’ve always sent one of the practice list activities home at the beginning of the week with students and included the word list in my weekly newsletter.
I am working on a major update to this resource to better align with the science of reading and it will include a parent letter that you can send home. You will be able to download this update for free, likely it will be added in the next month.
Hope this helps! -Christina
