Updated: Now includes the beginning of the year spelling screener to determine where in the scope & sequence to begin word study with your students! 8/26/2022
Word study units are different from traditional spelling units. Instead of giving students a list of words to memorize each week, these word study units focus on a specific phonics skill. Students are given explicit instruction on the phonics pattern and then have activities throughout the week that allow them to practice the phonics skill, and investigate and discover the patterns in words.
Included in this resource:
- A research-based, SoR-aligned Scope and Sequence
- Master Word Study List
- Word Study Teacher Guide
- Word cards
- 3 Practice Printables for Each Unit
- Assessments that include: word dictation, sentence dictation & spelling error analysis
- Editable templates for printables & assessments
- A Family Letter for Each Unit
- A Teacher Assessment Guide and Master Word List
- Beginning of the Year Student Screener

Loved this resource

My students needed a new spelling curriculum, I chose this because of the words being commonly misspelled. My kids enjoyed this and found it engaging. They were more confident on their testing day.

Good resource but some of the editable features I wasn’t happy with. Not having enough space for all of the words being one of them
Sarah S. –
I loved this so much. It was well organized and so easy to use as an independent activity each day.
Katelyn L. –
This was a great resource for extra practice and to aid with my struggling writers.

Progression of spelling patterns is logical and love the additions of practice so I don’t have to scramble to make them.
Sarah T. –
A good resource to use for spelling when my students struggled in the regular classroom.

Used these for extra spelling practice alongside another curriculum. Loved that it was editable for any word list! Thank you!
Susan R. –
We do not have a spelling/phonics curriculum this year and so this has been a great help in planning lessons for my ELA time. As I am working on creating my spelling lists in the PowerPoint editable version, I noticed that the ABC order page is not in the editable one. I was just wondering if there is a way that you could add this page to that document.
Thank you,
Susan

Hi Susan, Thank you so much for your purchase! The ABC order activities are on page 4 in the PDF “3rd grade word list full page AUTOFILL EDITABLE” Let me know if you have any problems! -Christina

I love the word patterns used. I like the 2 challenge words. I do wish there was a template or word lists made. You can type in the words but only 14 of them, not all 18 words. I don’t get that logic.

Great resource!
Kim Timmons –
Great! Thank you!!
Brynn B. –
This is a GREAT resource because the words align with 3rd grade standards. I love the activities, too. One big thing for me was a resource that included word wall words, so I was very happy for that. However, I went to print off a week one list for students to take home and I don’t see lists anywhere?? I could have swore when I purchased it this summer that there were lists I could send home…
