Word study units are different from traditional spelling units.  Instead of giving students a list of words to memorize each week, these word study units focus on a specific phonics skill.  Students are given explicit instruction on the phonics pattern and then have activities throughout the week that allow them to practice the phonics skill, and investigate and discover the patterns in words.

    I have used this in my class for a couple of years and am quite pleased with it. It is a great independent work center. The weekly list has a rule or pattern it follows. The worksheets are fun and engaging. I love the newly updated alphabetize the list worksheet. My students love to create their own word search and have their parents solve it. They also really love the decoding sheets. I am happy to see the syllable worksheets have more multisyllabic words.
