More About This Resource
This science of reading-aligned resource contains 60 decodable passages with comprehension questions and is perfect for beginning readers. Each passage is a phonics-based controlled text that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught words and irregular high frequency words. The resource is aligned to a research-based, systematic, phonics scope and sequence andincludes explicit lesson plans for each passage, as well as activities for before, during and after reading.
If you already own my decodable books with comprehension questions, these decodable passages with comprehension questions are the perfect addition to your collection! While these follow the same scope and sequence as my decodable books resource, the stories are not the same.
This resource contains 60 decodable passages that align with a research-based systematic phonics scope and sequence. Skills include short vowel CVC, blends, digraphs, CVCe, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, and diphthongs. Explicit lesson plans for each passage are provided for the teacher with activities for before, during, and after reading to strengthen phonics skills. Differentiate for student needs by using the two versions of student printables and audio recording for each passage. Using these passages and lesson plans, students will reread the decodable text to build fluency, discuss the text to build comprehension skills and write about the passage to apply and transfer their phonics skills to their writing.

For the Love of Library –
My ELL and dyslexic students love these activities!
Reeyan S. –
This was a great bundle and super helpful in my class.
Marie C. –
I use these stories and the lessons that go with them to reinforce the phonics concept that I’m teaching each week. I love the layout. They glue one in a book at school and they take one home to practice. It really has helped the reading.
Amy V. –
This has been a great resource to use during my intervention block.
Krystal M. –
These lessons and passages are wonderful resources. The passages provide just the right amount of decodable practice with good comprehension questions. The lessons are well-written and provide easy and effective instruction.
Jill F. –
My students love the QR code and reading along with you. Great resources! Thanks!
Katelin J. –
Little overwhelming. Students seem to not like the repeated readings. Stories were decodable though.
Becky Y. –
I use these decodables with my struggling readers. They work great when I only have 10-15 minutes to work with a small group! I also love the constructed response questions that go along with them! Great resource!
Ashley B. –
I use this alongside the decodable books bundle by Christina Winter. These passages are different than those included with the books, but it allows me to focus on a specific phonics skill for more time without repeating passages. My students in resource benefit from a lot of repetition, and this allows me that flexibility!
Stacy N. –
Thank you so much for creating these decodables! These are perfect for my intervention students and help them feel successful! YAY!
stephanie C. –
Great resource, easy to use on and effective. Highly recommend.
Adrienne K. –
I love everything I own from Mrs. Winter’s Bliss, and this resource is no exception. In addition to using these passages as decodables, I’m also able to get some reading comprehension practice in with my resource room students who have very basic comprehension goals at this point (e.g., identifying characters, putting two events in sequential order).
Amy M. –
This is a great resource that aligns with the science of reading.
Joanne L. –
These reading passages are perfect for small group phonics instruction. The addition of comprehension questions makes for a well-rounded lesson.
Jennifer K. –
My students enjoyed practicing phonics skills using this resource. The passages were short, and there was just enough practice with each phonics pattern. The short passages allowed my students to practice the skill without becoming overly fatigued. I really enjoy this resource!
Katie Hausmann –
Love all parts of this activity and use it quite often. My only complaint is that it is a little too small and I find that takes away from the success of the product with my readers.
Elaine S. –
This resource has helped me to make my reading groups more successful. The passages are amazing and I am able to print them and send them home with students, which they love!
Teresa D. –
Great stories for all levels of readers. Easy to use in small group reading and love the comprehension questions.
Kelsey L. –
This resource has been a great additon to my teacher center. So helpful and easy to use.
Jaime K. –
I used this with a tutoring student. I needed more passages to help practice skills learned. Great resource!
