More About This Resource
This science of reading-aligned resource contains 60 decodable passages with comprehension questions and is perfect for beginning readers. Each passage is a phonics-based controlled text that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught words and irregular high frequency words. The resource is aligned to a research-based, systematic, phonics scope and sequence andincludes explicit lesson plans for each passage, as well as activities for before, during and after reading.
If you already own my decodable books with comprehension questions, these decodable passages with comprehension questions are the perfect addition to your collection! While these follow the same scope and sequence as my decodable books resource, the stories are not the same.
This resource contains 60 decodable passages that align with a research-based systematic phonics scope and sequence. Skills include short vowel CVC, blends, digraphs, CVCe, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, and diphthongs. Explicit lesson plans for each passage are provided for the teacher with activities for before, during, and after reading to strengthen phonics skills. Differentiate for student needs by using the two versions of student printables and audio recording for each passage. Using these passages and lesson plans, students will reread the decodable text to build fluency, discuss the text to build comprehension skills and write about the passage to apply and transfer their phonics skills to their writing.

This resource works great for targeted small group reading instruction.

Phenomenal Resource. Use almost Daily.
It helped with readers, low readers, special education and English Language learners.

This has driven my small groups this year. It is so easy to differentiate- not only with different response methods (sentence starters/no sentence starters) but also switching between phonics skills. I would love a checklist page that has all of the stories on it. It would be easy to keep track of which stories have been read by each small group.

This is a great resource for reading groups! Super helpful and love that it has an audio read aloud for each passage. Students really enjoyed this!
Rigoberto Lemus –
These passages follow a strict phonics scope and sequence. This builds massive confidence because the student has the tools to decode 100% of the words.

The resources are really well done and beautifully organized; however, if it takes me two days to figure out how to access the resources…that’s not ideal. I appreciate that after reading many comments about difficulty accessing the resources, I was able to print and utilize them, but that took some work (and tech support).

Fantastic resource to practice fluency and comprehension! I use these in small groups every week. Everything I’ve purchased from Mrs. Winter’s Bliss has been amazing! Worth every penny!
