More About This Resource
This science of reading-aligned resource contains 60 decodable passages with comprehension questions and is perfect for beginning readers. Each passage is a phonics-based controlled text that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught words and irregular high frequency words. The resource is aligned to a research-based, systematic, phonics scope and sequence andincludes explicit lesson plans for each passage, as well as activities for before, during and after reading.
If you already own my decodable books with comprehension questions, these decodable passages with comprehension questions are the perfect addition to your collection! While these follow the same scope and sequence as my decodable books resource, the stories are not the same.
This resource contains 60 decodable passages that align with a research-based systematic phonics scope and sequence. Skills include short vowel CVC, blends, digraphs, CVCe, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, and diphthongs. Explicit lesson plans for each passage are provided for the teacher with activities for before, during, and after reading to strengthen phonics skills. Differentiate for student needs by using the two versions of student printables and audio recording for each passage. Using these passages and lesson plans, students will reread the decodable text to build fluency, discuss the text to build comprehension skills and write about the passage to apply and transfer their phonics skills to their writing.

This is my go-to resource for literacy centres! The decodable passages are engaging and support my students in applying their phonics skills in context. The comprehension questions encourage deeper thinking and align well with the Science of Reading approach. Perfect for independent or small group work—my Grade 1/2 students are always excited to use these. Highly recommend for any primary classroom!

I used these to review phonics skills with the student I was tutoring. I like that they are easy to use, provide a lesson plan, and include comprehension questions. Since I only meet with my student once a week, we do day 1 together and then the next week we do day 2 as a warm up/review before starting our next skill.
