More About This Resource
This science of reading-aligned resource contains 60 decodable passages with comprehension questions and is perfect for beginning readers. Each passage is a phonics-based controlled text that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught words and irregular high frequency words. The resource is aligned to a research-based, systematic, phonics scope and sequence andincludes explicit lesson plans for each passage, as well as activities for before, during and after reading.
If you already own my decodable books with comprehension questions, these decodable passages with comprehension questions are the perfect addition to your collection! While these follow the same scope and sequence as my decodable books resource, the stories are not the same.
This resource contains 60 decodable passages that align with a research-based systematic phonics scope and sequence. Skills include short vowel CVC, blends, digraphs, CVCe, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, and diphthongs. Explicit lesson plans for each passage are provided for the teacher with activities for before, during, and after reading to strengthen phonics skills. Differentiate for student needs by using the two versions of student printables and audio recording for each passage. Using these passages and lesson plans, students will reread the decodable text to build fluency, discuss the text to build comprehension skills and write about the passage to apply and transfer their phonics skills to their writing.

This school year, I was responsible for my own interventions. I grouped students based on their academic needs and used this resource during intervention time. My students did well with this resource because it was aligned with the skill we were working on, and was easy to access for my ELL and SPED students.

Wow! So many great things in here. The QR audio option helps & gave kiddos confidence -“Hey, I just read that!”. I love the simple idea to fold the page so it’s less to focus on. Also, I love the short passages as they engage in a “detective hunt” to find the learned skill. The Q&A prompts are fabulous! Excellent resource!

I used this resource during guided reading for students who struggled with different concepts. The passages were short and gave a few simple reading comprehension questions which was a good introduction on how to go back and look for an answer in the passage if you can’t remember after reading.

Love these decodable passages. The passages are short so the students really struggling can still feel successful. It’s a quick progress monitoring activity for me as well.
