More About This Resource
This science of reading-aligned resource contains 60 decodable passages with comprehension questions and is perfect for beginning readers. Each passage is a phonics-based controlled text that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught words and irregular high frequency words. The resource is aligned to a research-based, systematic, phonics scope and sequence andincludes explicit lesson plans for each passage, as well as activities for before, during and after reading.
If you already own my decodable books with comprehension questions, these decodable passages with comprehension questions are the perfect addition to your collection! While these follow the same scope and sequence as my decodable books resource, the stories are not the same.
This resource contains 60 decodable passages that align with a research-based systematic phonics scope and sequence. Skills include short vowel CVC, blends, digraphs, CVCe, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, and diphthongs. Explicit lesson plans for each passage are provided for the teacher with activities for before, during, and after reading to strengthen phonics skills. Differentiate for student needs by using the two versions of student printables and audio recording for each passage. Using these passages and lesson plans, students will reread the decodable text to build fluency, discuss the text to build comprehension skills and write about the passage to apply and transfer their phonics skills to their writing.

These are fantastic, especially when you don’t have decodable readers in your school. Love that the kids can hi-light on them and take them home! SOR aligned.

I love this resource so much! I am going to have students cut out the passage after we read it together and paste it in a notebook. It will be an interactive notebook for constant spiral review all year long!

I absolutely love this resource. With it a teacher can print decodables that align with the sounds/skills each group is reviewing. As students progressed through small-group lessons (review, segmenting/blending/isolating, writing sounds, practice with new skill, and then reading practice) these passages were extremely helpful. Students had specific practice and what they read aligned to the skills they practiced. Great resource!

Very happy with my purchase. The product is science of reading aligned and all you have to do is print and go! This product helped my struggling readers feel less frustrated because they could actually practice reading the skills we were learning in class.
Rebecca K. –
I loved using this resource with my kindergarteners. The lessons were easy to follow and I loved that every passage has a writing component for students to practice going back into the text and writing a complete sentence.
