More About This Resource
This science of reading-aligned resource contains 60 decodable passages with comprehension questions and is perfect for beginning readers. Each passage is a phonics-based controlled text that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught words and irregular high frequency words. The resource is aligned to a research-based, systematic, phonics scope and sequence andincludes explicit lesson plans for each passage, as well as activities for before, during and after reading.
If you already own my decodable books with comprehension questions, these decodable passages with comprehension questions are the perfect addition to your collection! While these follow the same scope and sequence as my decodable books resource, the stories are not the same.
This resource contains 60 decodable passages that align with a research-based systematic phonics scope and sequence. Skills include short vowel CVC, blends, digraphs, CVCe, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, and diphthongs. Explicit lesson plans for each passage are provided for the teacher with activities for before, during, and after reading to strengthen phonics skills. Differentiate for student needs by using the two versions of student printables and audio recording for each passage. Using these passages and lesson plans, students will reread the decodable text to build fluency, discuss the text to build comprehension skills and write about the passage to apply and transfer their phonics skills to their writing.

I teach 3rd grade and this was a lifesaver when I needed resources for my students who are reading at k, 1st, and 2nd grade levels. The students could use these independently and felt very proud of their work.

I used this decodable set in my small groups as I did guided readings with my group. It was helping in having these so that they were appropriate for the skills and levels of each reading group.

This was exactly what I was looking for to help my intervention students. I love how it comes with blending lines, passages, comprehension questions, and teacher plans. I also love that it comes with 2 pages for each story, each with different questions, so we can revisit the story with a fresh look.

Love that these include QR codes so my struggling students also have an entry to completing the activities and feeling successful.

So easy to use during Guided Reading 🙂 Fit well with our SOR Objectives and allowed for each modifications for each level group.

I have just started using these passages in my tutoring sessions. I really appreciate their focus on specific phonics skills and their alignment to the Science of Reading. I also like how consecutive passages build upon and review earlier skills. I anticipate this resource being an integral piece in my tutoring sessions this school year.

We used this for the first time in 2022-2023. I had a split grade (1&2) and I wish the resource was more aligned with the Word Work resource that I had for Grade 2 from this same creator. It was okay for Grade 1 but then I had to get a little creative.
This year I have a straight 1, plus a better understanding of the information, so I envision things running smoothly.
