More About This Resource
This science of reading-aligned resource contains 60 decodable passages with comprehension questions and is perfect for beginning readers. Each passage is a phonics-based controlled text that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught words and irregular high frequency words. The resource is aligned to a research-based, systematic, phonics scope and sequence andincludes explicit lesson plans for each passage, as well as activities for before, during and after reading.
If you already own my decodable books with comprehension questions, these decodable passages with comprehension questions are the perfect addition to your collection! While these follow the same scope and sequence as my decodable books resource, the stories are not the same.
This resource contains 60 decodable passages that align with a research-based systematic phonics scope and sequence. Skills include short vowel CVC, blends, digraphs, CVCe, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, and diphthongs. Explicit lesson plans for each passage are provided for the teacher with activities for before, during, and after reading to strengthen phonics skills. Differentiate for student needs by using the two versions of student printables and audio recording for each passage. Using these passages and lesson plans, students will reread the decodable text to build fluency, discuss the text to build comprehension skills and write about the passage to apply and transfer their phonics skills to their writing.

I love this resource! I use it as a must do activity during read to self in my small group rotations. It helps students practice the Fundations skill we are working on. I love that it includes a version with the sentence starter for those students who need the extra support. We have iPads in our classroom, and students are easily able to use the iPads to access the read aloud using the QR codes. I love that all students can independently use this resource, regardless of ability level.

These were a great resource to support my kids at the end of last school year. Parents also appreciated having a few passages to work through at home over the summer. Looking forward to being able to implement these starting earlier this year!

I have used these both in small group and as a whole class independent activity applying our newly learned phonics skills. I love that they stories are fairly short and help students to feel success as they practice decoding the new skill. There are so many different options to choose from which makes it very easy to differentiate for the varying needs of my students. I am very happy with this resource.

I used these in reading rotations and sometimes sent them home for homework. I did not use the audio; I’m not sure if any of my students used it when they did it for homework. The students enjoyed looking for all of the words with the phonics pattern before reading.

I use these decodables with my second graders who are not meeting benchmark and need extra phonics practice. Great resource!
