More About This Resource
These differentiated Write the Room decodable sentence activities give kindergarten, first and second grade students practice reading and writing words that contain targeted phonics skills.

Each sentence is a phonics-based controlled text sentence that contains target phonics skill words, previously taught phonics skill words, and irregular high-frequency words. The science of reading shows us that the connection between what our students learn in phonics and what they read & write is imperative for building a strong foundation in early reading!
In this activity, students move around the room with their recording sheet to read & write decodable sentences. There are 2 differentiated versions of each sentence that can be hung side by side throughout the classroom. Level one sentences follow a 1st grade phonics scope & sequence and Level two sentences follow a 2nd grade phonics scope & sequence. Students are taught to record the version of the sentence they can decode. They must also match each sentence to the correct picture on their recording sheet as a self check for decoding skills.
This resource includes:
- 100 decodable sentences
- 50 Level one sentences – 1st grade phonics skills
- 50 Level two sentences – 2nd grade phonics skills
- 20 student recording sheets

My students LOVED getting up to “find” the different writing prompts around the room…. they had to look high and low. It was SO much fun for them and me (because it took them a good 45 minutes to not only find all of the writing prompts, but also complete the assignment). Thank YOU!
